Our film department continues to grow and last week saw Aaron Smithies join A&P. Let’s find out a little bit more about him:
What is your job role here at A&P?
Hello! My Job role is Junior Film Production Executive. My main responsibilities are to work as a camera operator, editor and technical assistant within the film department.
What is your background?
I grew up in East Yorkshire and at 18 I moved to Preston to study Television Production at the University of Central Lancashire. During my time at University I started working freelance as a Live Sport Director, specialising in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and boxing events. I achieved a 1st in my degree and after spending 6 weeks travelling around America and continuing my freelance work, I began working at
A&P in December 2018.
Tell us 3 positives about your first week at A&P
- The film department are all very good at their jobs and all have things to teach me so every day I’m learning something new.
- All of the staff are very welcoming and willing to help with any and all queries I have.
- The introduction sessions meant I got to know all of the different departments and met all of the staff whilst getting an insight into what goes on in the day to day operations of A&P.
What is your favourite thing to do outside of work?
For the last four years I have been training, coaching and competing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). I train at Gracie Barra Preston and in the last few years I have been promoted to purple belt. I train 5 days a week and coach the introduction and some beginners classes.
As a Junior Film Production Executive, we have to ask you what your favourite film is and why?
The Wolf of Wall Street – I am a huge fan of Martin Scorsese’s work and I think the performances of DiCaprio and Hill are some of their best ever. Seeing Jonah Hill’s range as an actor and his move away from his usual style of film makes for amazing viewing. It’s just a really, really good film.
What is your most listened to song on Spotify?
Carry Me - Kygo.
As it’s nearly Christmas, what’s the weirdest gift you’ve ever received?
A bar of vegan soap.
